Precision is more about mastering the setups than laying out individual pieces when you use power tools to cut parts.

I have a simple routine. I use the same routine whether I am cutting parts or joining pieces for a project. It helps me get good results with minimal fuss.

Place the cutter and guide device.
Make a test cut and measure the result.
Modify the setup.

Be careful with the initial setup. There are some guidelines that can help you make the most of the inevitable adjustments. But dont get nuts about it. Its easy to waste time trying to get a perfect setup. Close enough is sufficient for the initial setup.

The test cut is your best means of evaluating the setup and making effective adjustments. Practice does make you better at this. You will see a difference in your eyesight and be more skilled with your hands. Once you understand the routine, the whole process becomes second nature.
